REFAT has successfully implemented pilot solar photovoltaic pumping stations for small-scale irrigation

As part of the REFAT project “Renewable Energy for Agricultural and Rural Development in Tunisia,” implemented by MEDREC, agricultural service companies successfully implemented photovoltaic water pumping stations with a total capacity of 148.65 kWp in the Kadi Bo project target region in Sousse and Kairouan. The pilot installations benefit from small-scale irrigation and will help avoid the emission of 2,668 tons of carbon over the next 25 years, given the degradation of their photovoltaic cells.

These agricultural service companies were created following training in agricultural techniques, photovoltaic installation, and business creation, facilitated by MEDREC. Ten candidates out of the 26 beneficiaries were selected to receive seed funding to create their own agricultural service companies in the project’s target regions.

A series of media clips were created to showcase the integration of this type of pilot system into the beneficiary’s agricultural activities as part of the successful bidder’s mission for call for tenders No. REF01/2021:
