MEDREC joins the Interreg MED initiative: Ecosystem Transition Unit

The Interreg Med Renewable Energy Community has selected a project proposal developed by MEDREC and DG/ACTA (Directorate General for Agricultural Land Management and Conservation) as a special case within the framework of the ETU initiative’s flagship call.

The project proposal, entitled “Application of the ETU Model for Access to Renewable Energy and Rural Development in Remote and Vulnerable Areas of Northern Tunisia,” aims to use the ETU toolbox as a complementary tool to improve the rural development plan developed for the municipality of Ghezela as part of an ongoing national project on natural resource management and climate change adaptation. This will primarily identify optimal technological solutions and management strategies, adapted to the specific conditions and needs of the selected area. The application of the ETU model will also reveal the potential of renewable energy solutions as a catalyst for local green job creation.

Adopting the solutions identified through the ETU toolbox could subsequently lead to the creation of new economic activities, while improving the living conditions of local communities and promoting the transition to clean energy.
