One of the main objectives of the Med-EcoSuRe project is to enable Mediterranean university and public building managers to leverage, in the medium term, a wide range of proven technologies, policies, and financing mechanisms to improve energy efficiency and achieve cost-effective energy savings in buildings. In this context, a cross-border seminar was organized with the aim of providing recommendations for financing clean energy technologies for building renovation, referring to different experiences with financial instruments and potential replication in the Mediterranean.
This seminar, held from June 15 to 29, 2021, brought together 40 participants and targeted local and regional authorities, national energy agencies, ministries and fund managers, organizations providing training to cities and regions, banks and financial institutions, and all stakeholders interested in financing to support or replicate regional initiatives.
The seminar included:
– National workshops (June 15-18, 2021) organized, in person and virtually, in Tunisia, Palestine, Italy, and Spain, to:
– Explore partnership opportunities, instruments, and financing programs adapted to each local context;
– Identify barriers to the deployment of energy renovation actions in the public sector;
– Develop strategic recommendations on how to seize opportunities and overcome obstacles to accelerate the energy renovation of public buildings.
– A cross-border conference (June 29, 2021) during which invited experts provided an overview of the energy transition and financing schemes in the Mediterranean region, and the project partner presented the results of the local workshops, with the aim of sparking a debate on local specificities and opportunities for renovating existing building energy reserves.
