Med-EcoSuRe presents a microgrid pilot project as an education, research and training platform at an international seminar

On November 10, 2021, the National School of Engineering of Tunis (ENIT) and the Mediterranean Renewable Energy Center (MEDREC) participated in a seminar on “Water, Energy, and Electrification in Developing Countries,” organized by the organizations of the French-Speaking Engineering Technicians (CITEF) and the institutional network “Engineering Sciences” of the Francophone University Agency (AUF).

The seminar is a forum for building shared knowledge that should lead to significant actions that CITEF could potentially support. In this context, the ENIT and MEDREC team participated in a session on electrification to present “SMARTNESS Microgrid Platform: Community Energy Empowerment through Training and Capacity Building.”

During the presentation, it was emphasized that the pilot microgrid is a platform that serves for education, research, and training through:

Preparing future engineers for professional practice through practical workshops;
Developing experimentally validatable research activities as part of master’s and doctoral thesis projects;
Designing and conducting a training and capacity-building program for socio-economic operators to meet the technological challenges of a rapidly evolving field.
In a first initiative, the ENIT team established a Microgrid platform that provides a demonstration, training, and research environment, targeting national stakeholders in the energy sector, including STEG (Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company).
