Med-EcoSuRe is organizing a workshop on how strategic plans are the key to efficient energy renovation of buildings

MEDREC, in collaboration with the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME), organized a workshop on February 25, 2021, in Tunis, Tunisia. The theme of this workshop was “Exchanging Best Practices for the Development of Strategic Renovation Plans for University Buildings in Tunisia.”

The workshop brought together more than 30 participants from the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME), the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the National School of Engineering of Tunis (ENIT), and socio-economic stakeholders working in the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy. The main objective was to establish synergies with projects implemented by the ANME, particularly RELS, in order to implement energy management action plans in public buildings in Tunisia.

During this technical workshop, the Med-EcoSuRe team shared the recommendations made during the Living Lab webinar held on June 23, 2020, on the implementation of an action plan for energy management in public buildings.

ANME representatives also shared their experience implementing the RELS (Energy Renovation of Housing) project, funded under the 2007-2013 ENI CBC MED program.

Finally, a round table, moderated by Chiheb Bouden, professor at ENIT and member of the Med-EcoSuRe project, was set up to jointly propose action plans for the implementation of energy management in university buildings in Tunisia.

Here are some of the actions proposed within the framework of Med-EcoSuRe, based on the experience of ANME and the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research:

Exchange of recommendations and rehabilitation methodologies for the implementation of renovation measures in public buildings;
Development of an approach to support decision-makers and energy managers in the implementation of a strategic plan for the renovation of university and public buildings (Med-EcoSuRe decision-making tools);
Joint organization of information and training events for decision-makers on the regulatory and incentive framework governing energy audits and renovation of public buildings.
Active involvement of students in the renovation process, through competitions, in order to replicate the pilot actions implemented within the framework of Med-EcoSuRe. “When energy managers want to carry out the energy renovation of a university building, they will find benchmarks, tools, strategies, and case studies to replicate.”

Chiheb Bouden – Professor at the National School of Engineering of Tunis

The workshop was highly appreciated by all participants, as the proposed actions will enable decision-makers and energy managers to achieve energy efficiency objectives for public buildings in Tunisia.
