Med-EcoSuRe launches the first solar tree project in Palestine

The Grants and International Projects Center at An-Najah National University launched the first phase of the “Off-Grid Solar Tree” project, which was installed in front of the main entrance of the new campus. It has a capacity of 3.18 kilowatts. This Solar Tree project is the first of its kind in Palestine.

The tree, which stands 3.5 meters tall, generates electricity from solar energy, charging 100 electrical devices, including computers, mobile phones, and wheelchairs, and lighting 20 LED lamps, with the ability to control lighting periods during the night.

The tree consists of three branches, each connected to a solar panel. During the day, when there is sufficient sunlight to meet the loads, the solar energy generated directly powers these loads. Any excess solar energy is stored in the battery.

Thanks to this Solar Tree pilot project, the university is:

Raise awareness among university students about the importance of integrating renewable energy;
Stimulate creativity, leadership, and cooperation among university students.

Through this pilot project and others already in place, the university will be able to reduce its CO2 emissions by 550 tons per year. The project will also lead to a reduction in diesel fuel consumption during long power outages to provide better services to students and staff.
