MEDREC and the Global Network on Energy for Sustainable Development (GNESD)

The MEDREC is included in the framework of the Global Network on Energy for Sustainable Development (GNESD), a UNEP facilitated knowledge network of developing world Centres of Excellence and network partners, renowned for their activities on energy, development and environment issues.

The GNESD is structured to facilitate the sharing of the Centres experiences, strengths and expertise. GNESD activities build on the already existing capacity in the member Centres, both in the developing and industrialized countries, renown for their expertise in the field of sustainable energy.

 

MEDREC and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP)
The MEDREC is the regional focal point of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) for the Northern African Region.
REEEP is a voluntary multi-stakeholder partnership contributing to the implementation of agenda 21 and Johannesburg Plan of Implementation (JPOI). REEEP was established at the Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002 with an objective to expand the global market for renewable energy and energy efficiency. REEEP currently consisting of over 200 partners including 35 governments achieves this objective through its initiatives, interventions and programme. Under its programme REEEP extends financial support to high quality renewable energy and energy efficiency projects that target business, financing, policy and regulation issues.
