The Mediterranean Renewable Energy Centre is committed in training and dissemination besides the development of pilot projects. The MEDREC, based in Tunis, was launched by the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Territory; today it involves International and Governmental Institutions of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia. The Centre is the focal point of the Mediterranean Renewable Energy Programme (MEDREP).
 
EVENTS: Celebration for 5 years since establishment of MEDREC [2009-04-10]
A great success. The two workshops, organized by MEDREC to celebrate the fifth anniversary since its establishment, have been a major success.
WHEESP: International call for bid for Italian Consulting Firms [2009-02-10]
A “solar pond” pilot research project for the production of Water, Heat and Electric Energy will be executed in Tunisia, to assess the viability of this technology under typical meteorological conditions.
Analysis of needs for capacity building activities [2009-01-30]
In order to reinforce the capacities in the North African countries MEDREC has started up a diagnosis of the national needs in the field of Renewable Energies.
The Mediterranean Renewable Energy Programme (MEDREP) was launched as a Type II Initiative at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg by Italian Government. The principal objectives of the programme are:
to provide sustainable energy services particularly to rural populations;
to contribute to the climate change mitigation by increasing the share of renewable energy in the energy mix of the Region.
