International Solidarity Conference on Impacts and Advanced Climate Change Strategies for the Africa ( 2007-11-23 )

A major international conference on climate change and its consequences on the environment of african and mediterranean countries took place in Tunis on November 18 to 20, 2007. The conference whose theme is "International solidarity for the protection of Africa and of the Mediterranean region against climate changes", witnessed the participation of high level experts from many countries around the world.

The conference which was opened by Tunisian prime minister Mohamed Ghannouchi, devoted its works to study the impacts of the Climate Changes on the economic and social development of the Mediterranean and African countries and the efforts of the concerned states to improve the living conditions of their citizens and guarantee their food security.

The covered themes and issues during the conference ranged from agricultural development, water resources, food security, environmental protection, renewable energies, up to the exploration of new strategies of development adapted to climate changes.

The Works of the International Conference was crowned by the adoption of the "Tunis Declaration" and an "Action Plan" to serve as a basis to favour International solidarity and establish the adequate framework allowing to help the states and the International Organisations to work out their plans and programmes in this area.

The conference has benefited from the support of the several European countries and international institutions including the World Bank, the UN Development Program (UNDP), the African Development Bank, The World Forum for sustainable development, the Sahel and Sahara Observatory, the Action Plan for the Mediterranean, the German Cooperation Agency (GTZ), as well as the French Development Agency.
