Pilot projects on the Valorisation of Olive Pomace

The production of olive pomace in Tunisia is 300 000 to 500 000 tons / year where 20% (60 000 to 100 000 tons / year) takes place in the North West and the rest in central and southern Tunisia. These amounts are partially exported. The amount of residue produced can be used for heating purposes and in the replacement of energy sources such as LPG.

  • Pilot project presents 10% of the potential and consisted on heating 100 classrooms in the coldest areas of Tunisia which presents on CDM 27 000 TCO2/year. The project involved the use of Italians stoves
  • Pilot project presents 1% of the potential and consisted on heating 10 hectares of cold greenhouses where the project involves the use of Italian boilers.
  • Accompanying actions such as raising awareness through seminars and workshops targeting farmers and school principals and training for farmers and maintenance workers in rural schools.
