Organisation of a Technical Seminar on Sustainable Technologies for Agriculture | 10-04-2019

General Framework

Sustainable agriculture is of paramount importance in countries on both sides of the Mediterranean. For Tunisia, establishing a sustainable agriculture can achieve several objectives including ensuring food security, sustaining some traditional farming systems, improving the profitability of rainfed agriculture and small family farming, preserving natural resources and adapting to climate changes.

In order to follow on this strategic orientation, a process of adapting cultural techniques, farming systems and adopted technologies must be operated in close collaboration with the research and development and the profession.

Within this framework, and following their Bilateral Cooperation Agreement, the Ministry of Environment, Lands and Sea of the Italian Republic (IMELS) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries of The Republic of Tunisia (MARHP), have organized the "Seminar on Sustainable Technologies in Agriculture" in collaboration with the Mediterranean Center for Renewable Energy (MEDREC) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Objectives of the Seminar:

  • Building collaborations between Tunisian and Italian companies in the field of sustainable technologies for agriculture
  • Understanding the Italian and Tunisian agro-systems and sustainable technologies in agriculture
  • Boosting synergies between research and industry actors for technology transfer
  • Communication about investment/financing opportunities in sustainable technologies for agriculture in Tunisia
