The Mediterranean Renewable Energy Centre is committed in training and dissemination besides the development of pilot projects. The MEDREC, based in Tunis, was launched by the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Territory; today it involves International and Governmental Institutions of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia. The Centre is the focal point of the Mediterranean Renewable Energy Programme (MEDREP).
 
PROSOL Tunisia 2007 [2008-01-30]
Within the framework of its strategy to develop renewable energies, the Tunisian government have decided to launch an ambitious program aiming the development of the use of Solar Water-Heater (SWH) in the residential sector, through the implementation of a number of encouraging measures. This program called PROSOL TUNISIA (Solar promotion for Tunisia), started in February 2005. The objective for year 2007 consisted in installing 65 000 m2 of solar water heaters in the resendential field. The achievements in 2007 were about 60 000 m˛, which represents about 92,3 % of the objective.
International Solidarity Conference on Impacts and Advanced Climate Change Strategies for the Africa [2007-11-23]
A major international conference on climate change and its consequences on the environment of african and mediterranean countries took place in Tunis on November 18 to 20, 2007. The conference whose theme is "International solidarity for the protection of Africa and of the Mediterranean region against climate changes", witnessed the participation of high level experts from many countries around the world.
GNESD Annual Assembly 2007 [2007-11-05]
The annual Assembly of GNESD took place this year at UNEP DTIE in Paris on 2 November 2007. The theme of the Assembly was ‘Energy and Poverty - Improving access to modern forms of energy’ .
The Mediterranean Renewable Energy Programme (MEDREP) was launched as a Type II Initiative at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg by Italian Government. The principal objectives of the programme are:
to provide sustainable energy services particularly to rural populations;
to contribute to the climate change mitigation by increasing the share of renewable energy in the energy mix of the Region.
